The player takes on the role of a caretaker in a chimp rehabilitation center. The goal is to have five different chimpanzees living together in harmony. Once all the monkeys are in the cage, the timer starts running. After a minute, the level of happiness of all chimps makes up for the players score. Bad combinations can turn out fatal, so the player has to be careful. He develops his strategy by controlling the order of chimps put into the cage, and manipulates the monkeys behavior with a water hose, medicine and food.
The Chimpanzee Complex Game was developed in coöperation with wildlife rescue center AAP Foundation and it represents their actual methods of rehabilitation. The game applies novel techniques such as advanced Artificial Intelligence algorithms to implement truthful monkey behavior. There are no pre-written scripts. Like in real life, the monkeys processes change due to group dynamics, keeping the games outcome unpredictable. To emphasize the reality of the game, both the graphic- and sound design are based on the spaces and sounds at the actual chimpanzee complex.
